AOC Archaeology Group’s role in such windfarm development projects usually comprises undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments to form Environmental Statement Chapters. One such windfarm project is the proposed Viking Energy Wind Farm on Shetland. Viking Energy is a community and council led consortium working with Scottish & Southern Energy to create the world's largest community wind farm. Work undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group so far has involved archive research, consultation and extensive walkover surveys of the whole application area and its environs. The results of this assessment have helped to inform the layout of the proposed wind farm. The work will conclude with a mitigation strategy to limit adverse impacts on archaeology.
